2017 Game of the Year Awards

Best Soundtrack

Game Title: Triptych
Release Date: March 13, 2017
Platforms: PC
Genre: Mystery
Developer: Dark Craft Studios

This is not the first time a mod has won this award, but nevertheless it is surprising. Triptych is a short total conversion mod for Crysis, nominated for Mod of the Year – Total Conversion on the previous page. While it doesn’t have a ton of music given its length, what it has is so incredibly atmospheric for this authentic Lovecraftian mystery tale that it certainly earns this award. This soundtrack is instrumental (no pun intended) in Triptych, like The Worry of Newport from the same studio, reaching never before seen levels of authenticity for Lovecraftian existential horror in gaming. As a huge fan of Lovecraft, I can safely say they nailed it.

The soundtrack can be found on bandcamp.

Other Nominees

  • Divinity: Original Sin 2
  • Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
  • Cuphead
  • NieR Automata
  • Total War: WARHAMMER 2
