QNAP Releases TS-977XU Hybrid NAS Featuring AMD Ryzen

QNAP TX-977XU Featured

QNAP has just announced the launch of its latest intelligent Hybrid NAS, the TX-977XU which features an AMD Ryzen processor which is boasting some pretty impressive specs. The NAS is bundled in a single 1U configuration which makes it perfect for homelab users or server environments.

The QNAP TX-977XU provides options for four 3.5″ SATA drives and for five 2.5″ SATA drive bays for solid state drives, allowing for mixed storage options for configurations for quick cache options for increased performance. The drives benefit from QNAP’s new Qtier auto-tiering storage technology which allows the provisioning of the mixed drives via software-defined technology.

“By combining AMD Ryzen processors with an advanced hybrid storage structure and 10GbE SFP+ connectivity, the TS-977XU packs tremendous performance into a compact 1U frame. The TS-977XU is further enhanced by PCIe expandability, allowing users to expand core NAS functionality as needed to accommodate changing requirements and business growth,” said David Tsao, product manager of QNAP.

The NAS features impressive specs starting with the CPU, an AMD Ryzen 3 1200 or a Ryzen 5 2600 depending on the build. Typically NAS storage boxes lack CPU computational power, however with 6-cores (12-threads) available this allows users to use the NAS for CPU intensive purposes such as acting as an HTPC, or for intense video transcoding loads.

I/O support for the new QNAP box features dual 10GB Ethernet ports featuring the Mellanox ConnectX-4 controller allowing quick transfer speeds between devices. The device also includes a single 1Gbps Ethernet port. Device support is also pretty good as the TS-977XU also features 1 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) Type-A and 4 x USB 3.0 Type-A ports. For greater dependability, an available PCIe slot is also available internally.

The QNAP TS-977XU is available now. More information can be found on QNAP’s product page.
