Crutial has just released a brand new lineup of consumer grade SSDs dubbed the Crucial BX500 SSD series. These particular drives will offer pretty good performance at a reasonable price. Capacity for the new BX500 series SSDs will come in three different flavors, 120GB, 240GB and 480GB. Speeds for each of the drives look to be at around 540MB/sec read speed and around 500MB/sec write speed on the SATA6 platform.
This release came on suddenly with no prior press release hinting that these drives would be coming soon. Because of that there really aren’t a whole lot of specs provided. All we know is that they are based on TLC (Tripple Level Cell) storage technology which is the most cost effective NAND Flash. To cut costs we likely won’t see any high end features such as a DRAM buffer.
The drive is also backed through Crutial’s 3-year limited warranty offering peace of mind if you’re nervous about you drive’s longevity.
Pricing for the new SSDs:
- Crutial BX500 120GB (CT120BX500SSD1): $29 USD
- Crutial BX500 240GB (CT240BX500SSD1): $49 USD
- Crutial BX500 480GB (CT480BX500SSD1): $89 USD
Overall, really good prices and we’ll likely see an even further decrease as time goes on. Expect these new drives to ship early next month.
