Linux vs. Windows Benchmarks: Threadripper 2990WX vs Core i9-7980XE

Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX Benchmarks

Now that AMD’s new top dog, Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX has been released, we’re getting a lot of details surrounding how it does versus Intel’s current lineup. In a video posted by Hardware Unboxed, the world now has both Windows and Linux benchmark results! In this video both Linux and Windows tests were ran which produced some interesting results. So did the battle of the new AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX vs Core i9-7980XE  fair?

To sum it up, the numbers surrounding the new Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX were massively impressive, offering almost twice the performance over Intel’s i9 7980XE processor. What was really interesting is the performance increase found in Linux over Windows. This was not surprising as Windows does not scale high core counts as well as Linux. In some of the test, Windows performance was identical between the two processors while during the same tests, the Threadripper’s  Linux benchmark achieved double the performance over Intel’s.

As both are the current top players in both Intel and AMD’s lineup, they are definitely begging to be compared, especially since the new Threadripper 2990WX vs Core i9-7980XE are both geared for HEDT systems. Benchmarks will be important.

Do you think it’s worth upgrading to the new Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX cpus, especially if you’re a Windows user? Let us know!
