Leveling Up

Hey guys,

In the past couple of days I have been slowly upgrading my home network. The upgrades are listed below.

FUNCTIONOLDNEW
ModemXFINITY-ARRIS
TG862G Gateway
MOTOROLA-ARRIS
Surfboard SB6141
Wi-FiXFINITY-ARRIS
TG862G Gateway
ASUS RT-N10P
N150
Main
Switch
Built in to gatewayTrendnet GREENnet
TEG-S80G

  • The fee for renting a gateway from comcast is $10 a month. That adds up! We got the new modem for about $80 and that is all you have to pay, and the comcast support team easily activates it for you.
  • The Wi-Fi built in to the comcast gateway crashed about once every day. Every time it crashed you have to go and unplug it then wait a couple of minutes then plug it back in. Also, the range was very poor. It only broadcasted full signal to the room it was in and the rest of the house was left with about 1 or 2 bars of wifi.
  • The switch was necessary since the surfboard only has one ethernet port.

CONCLUSION: The network upgrade brought our download speed from 20 mbps to 50 mbps, we are even capable of speeds up to 150 mbps now. It is awesome :D.

NOTE: 50 mbps internet is better for server hosting than 20 -- sometimes even 5 mbps. XD

--If something here doesn't make sense ask me, I am writing this as I am getting ready to go to bed. I am tired. Thanks!
