Got a system build coming for my birthday! I'm thinking EVGA z68, intel 2600k, EVGA GTX 590 classified, 16gb ram, 64GB crucial ssd with 1TB Western Digital caviar black HDD, Bigfoot Killer 2100 Nic, new cooler master 1000 watt gold plus psu, EVGA cpu cooler, 5 new 120mm red fans to go with the color scheme, new Asus 24" LED monitor. all wrapped up in my Cooler master cm stacker 830 case.

My goal is to run Battlefield 3 high res while recording Fraps smoothly, so I needed a new build.

Photos to come! I'm waiting for labor day sales on Newegg.

What's wrong with the 590?

If you get like 2x GTX570 in stead, they will easily beat the 590 for about the same price 🙂
And yes, 16GB is overkill.
That's my opinion.

There are those who like overkill though 😉 Will his ram ever get 100% utalized, probably not. But there are some scenarios where having that much ram can help a ton. ie: video editing, or CAD.

Estimated price of the build?
I'd say ~ £2000 :O

def0 get the OCZ Vertex 3 ( not the 2 ) SSD. here's the link for the 120GB. if you can swing the 240, all the better.

* and i'm in the '16 GB of RAM is not overkill' camp.
** and if the budget will handle it, THIS is the ASUS 23" monitor you really want.

But 16GB is overkill. Because there is absolutely no application that will need that much RAM. Especially in Blazens case, which is seems he just wants to max out BF3, which he could do with a GTX 580, i7 2600k, 8GB DDR3 2000Mhz, and a fast HD or SSD if he would like.

I don't understand peoples blind spending on PC parts, ending up spending $3000 or so on parts that will hardly or not affect performance, just because they think 'Spend More Money=Better PC' While that can be true, it isn't always. Why spend $3000 on stuff you won't need when you can spend $1500 on stuff that will more than get the job done and not leave you broke for the next year.

There are plenty of applications that will use that much ram and I already gave examples. It wont make a difference in gaming or normal tasks, but I say if you have the money fir it, why not 🙂

I'm also against dual GPU cards. Also all of Cooler Master's PSUs are worthless right now, your best bet is a Corsair HX1050, OCZ ZX 1000W or Silverstone Strider Gold 1000W.

The Thermalright Macho HR-02 is a better CPU fan choice as well. It costs less and can support multiple fans unlike the EVGA Superclock cooler. Performance is at least as good going by reviews.

i agree with enad about the 590...dont touch it... IF you can even find one. the voltage and non-existent overclock headroom should be enough to scare you away from it. you would probably be better off with a 460 2win, which does better numbers than a single 580 or get a 580 mars 2. i dont think anyone who bought the 590 was happy with it and the RMA's were going in like crazy for a limited run card.

I settled on going with the intel 2500k and save $100, going with 8 gigs of ram. I'm sticking with the 64gb ssd and going to take advantage of intel smart response technology. I am not a fan of dual cards. I have had dual cards for 4 years and had a lot of problems with SLI and recognising one of the cards. I like the 590 as it is a single card design and from the benchmarks it does very well. I also like the fact that it has the beefy center fan and the already installed back plate.

A 590 is essentially dual cards but with more problems and heat issues.

You tell them blazen! the 590 is a crazy amazing card.

Also I have that same CPU and I have one of those motherboards on the way. I am also excited to try out the SSD hybrid. I hope it works as well as I hope 😉
