Q8400 and Intel 945G chipset

I know I have a rather old motherboard, but it seems to do me well and I've never had issues with it, but I've heard an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 CPU won't/might not work in my aging Intel 945G. I made sure my motherboard was LGA 775 just like the Q8400 and I thought that, along with making sure I had enough room for the Heatsink (Hyper 212 Plus), was enough for it to work.

Nothing on the CPU specifications say it won't work on a 945G, but before I order the CPU and Heatsink, I want to make sure it will 100% work.

It depends if your motherboard supports 45nm cpu's. I had an old P5W DH Deluxe, with that, the Q8400 where not on the support list of the motherboard, I still tried and it worked fine. I just couldn't overclock or anything. And I bought an Asrock P45XE.

Holy **** that is really an old motherboard. I just saw. I'm very afraid it isn't going to work, but you can still try. There are 2 versions of the Q8400, the 8400 and the 8400S. This last one was supported by my old P5W but the other one not, guess which I got 😀

Ok thanks. I'll be getting a Motherboard since I don't want to risk it not working, even though I really don't look forward to installing it.

This will work with the Q8400 then, for sure...I hope.

Probably won't fit in your case. Try looking for a mATX one as that one is the exact size as your current one, BTW remember when changing out your motherbaord you probably have to reinstall windows so prepare for that

According to his case specifications it supports ATX, I would Email Gateway to be 100% positive.
