So I was looking at Strud's post about his HTCP and that made me interested. In the summer I'm gonna move into the city, and then I am gonna do a complete "rebuild" of all electric stuff in my house.
Right now I want get some help with:
1.HTPC OS
2. Ripping Blu-ray and dvds (got like 350+) (Possible to get a pic of every movie in the OS and a menu for the movie? Even if it is digital.)
3. Connecting HTPC to NAS and stream movies.
The NAS is a RadyNAS Duo. Know Stud was looking at http://xbmc.org/ but I do not know if I can use if.
Oh and if I use XBMC, is that OS in it self or more like a program I can run on a Linux?
You install an OS, then install the software ontop as I understand it.

You can do it on Linux, there's a page to read. 🙂
Is XMBC the way to go if you want to play movies?
Yes diffidently. XBMC either works on linux or windows so feel free to use what you want. What I did was added XBMC to the startup folder so it loads up when I turn the computer on.
As for ripping BluRay and DVD use DVDfab. http://www.dvdfab.com/
It rips with amazing quality. I recommend h.264 (.mkv) file. You can even do a double pass on your blurays for extra quality 😀
I ran XBMC on my laptop the other day, and when I browsed my NAS, it froze for 2 min and then returned back. Sometimes crashed completely. Any clue?
it must be something with the network. Try playing a local file and see if that works
