is there any reason why ACER would not be good. this would be my first product by them.

I've heard lots of stories about very poor customer support and just the quality of their products not being the best.
Maybe try looking for an Asus laptop?
HP's outta the pc business...other than software, which they acquired Autonomy for, and printers. You don't want to get stuck with a warranty issue with a HP laptop now. Unless you get the HP laptop for practically nothing, stay away. Don't bother with there printers either..their horrible. Lenovo makes some of the best laptops on the market and their resale value holds up pretty well for a tech item. I've owned acer monitors and have never had a problem but I've never, and don't know anyone, who's tried their pc's.
Printers != Laptops 😀

That, Here in Belgium HP is a big player in the PC/Laptop business. Including warranty. Just because you and some friends of you had a bad experience with HP doesn't mean everything is bad from them. HP is top notch for business laptops as far as I'm conserned. But everyone is allowed to have an opinion, and I voice mine 🙂
I think you misinterpret what im saying...i mean this...while there pc may have been fine at one time, they no longer will be produceing them. so buying one now is probably not the best idea being that there gonna just liquidate the stocks as quickly as possible for whatever they can get and it will most likely be alot of "as is" or short lived warrantys and not the regular warranty service one would expect from them. there pc's are just as generic as dell, gateway, acer etc.... and im sure they perform just the same.

agreed. had 4 clients within the past year and 3 of the systems were wierd hardware problems (bad motherboards) that I couldn't fix. I recommend dell business laptops, or cyberpowerpc.com or toshiba's laptops. much better hardware. I had an acer laptop that kept overheating. it was causing it to constantly shut down. I tried everything I could to save it. It was no use. That sucked.
