Best Quotes in Video Game History

Hello and welcome to another very important article! As the title implies, here we have compiled a list of roughly fifty of the best quotes in video game history, in no particular order. Quotes are a big part of our society; they are memorable excerpts from a game’s script. The quotes here are the most special to us; some are the most well written, conveying important ideas or themes from the story or perfectly capturing the essence of the character, while others are simply witty one liners that are memorable for their amusement.

We will list the quote, the name of the game, the year the game was released, and the name of the character who spoke the quote. Again this list isn’t in any particular order. Note that this list includes SPOILERS since some of the quotes discuss important plot points.

Without further ado, let’s begin.

Quote Title Character Name
“The Unity will bring about the master race. Master! Master! One able to survive, or even thrive, in the wasteland. As long as there are differences, we will tear ourselves apart fighting each other. We need one race. Race! Race! One goal. Goal! Goal! One people . . . to move forward to our destiny. Destiny.” Fallout (1997) Master
“Bugmen take moo-moos at night. Torr scared! Hep Torr? (Well, as I said, they are nocturnal in their feeding habits. I sure could use some assistance in guarding the brahmin. Will you kill any bugmen that you see near the brahmin?)” Fallout 2 (1998) Torr Buckner
“They asked me how well I understood theoretical physics. I said I had a theoretical degree in physics. They said welcome aboard.” Fallout: New Vegas (2010) Fantastic
“Wait a moment! Before you go, I… We hope you’ve enjoyed your stay. Farewells can be a time of sadness, letting go, difficult. As a guest of the Sierra Madre, you know that truth more than anyone. Frederick Sinclair believed one’s life could be made anew every day, that fortunes were more than the wealth in your hands. Love, life, family, those to care for, and those who will care for you; to those who know these joys, the Sierra Madre holds little they don’t already have. Out in the world, beyond these walls, that is your chance to begin again. I hope you’ll return in happier times. Until then, the Sierra Madre, and I, will hold you in our hearts.” Fallout: New Vegas – Dead Money (2010) Vera Keyes
“Behold the power of SCIENCE!” Fallout: New Vegas – Old World Blues (2011) Doctor Klein
“They only take what parts they find in the Divide, never roam beyond it – can’t even leave the silos without a human to shadow, like hounds. Maybe they saw the flag on my jacket, thought I was of America. If so, history saved me. A sign.” Fallout: New Vegas – Lonesome Road (2011) Ulysses
“We make your head hurt because you’re a big dummy. Ha ha!” Icewind Dale (2000) Any Player Character
“Fear names. Names have power in identity. Others can use names as weapons. Names are a hook that can be used to track you across the planes. Remain nameless, and you shall be safe. I am the Nameless One.” Planescape: Torment (1999) The Nameless One
“What can change the nature of a man?” Planescape: Torment (1999) The Nameless One
“When a mind does not know itself, it is flawed. When a mind is flawed, the man is flawed. When a man is flawed, that which he touches is flawed. It is said that what a flawed man sees, his hands make broken.” Planescape: Torment (1999) Dak’kon
“Time is not your enemy. Forever is.” Planescape: Torment (1999) Fall-From-Grace
“You have survived long, immortaled one, but you have become the prey of the creature that is life. The body is but a hut for the soul. But now no one dwells in your hut.” Planescape: Torment (1999) Ravel Puzzlewell
“I? Ravel am I, a maker and breaker of puzzles, a solver of what *cannot* be solved, a mind raveling and unraveling until the threads of thought are tied up like knots in a drunken man’s hair. It is enough, enough it is.” Planescape: Torment (1999) Ravel Puzzlewell
“I will not be judged by you mortal; not when you have lived the lives you have. Let me tell you of Betrayal: betrayal is cowardice… selling weapons to your adversaries out of fear that they might stop killing each other and turn upon you. Betrayal is refusing to lead by example. Betrayal is letting the Fiends run rampant through the Planes until evil has corrupted all hearts.” Planescape: Torment (1999) Trias
“If there is anything I have learned in my travels across the Planes, it is that many things may change the nature of a man. Whether regret, or love, or revenge or fear – whatever you believe can change the nature of a man, can. I’ve seen belief move cities, make men stave off death, and turn an evil hag’s heart half-circle. This entire Fortress has been constructed from belief. Belief damned a woman, whose heart clung to the hope that another loved her when he did not. Once, it made a man seek immortality and achieve it. And it has made a posturing spirit think it is something more than a part of me.” Planescape: Torment (1999) The Nameless One
